Imara Impact Fund

Imara is a Nottingham-based charity that provides independent specialist support to children and families who have been affected by sexual abuse and domestic abuse.

1,128 child sexual abuse offences were recorded by Nottinghamshire police in 2022/23, and needs assessments for child sexual abuse and sexual exploitation in Nottingham are more than double the national average. Children who have seen, heard or witnessed domestic abuse in the household are also now identified as survivors according to the 2021 Domestic Abuse Act.

At Imara, we’re dedicated to helping these survivors. We pride ourselves on our child-centred and trauma-informed support, which has helped 2,200 children and young people, and more than 1,500 families on their journey to healing and recovery.

As a small local charity, we know as much as anyone that times are difficult and many of the services we provide to children and families are entirely unfunded. We have created the Imara Impact Fund with the aim of raising at least £250,000 of unrestricted income to plug this funding gap, so we can keep delivering these essential services to children and families.

We are asking for your help to donate to and support the Imara Impact Fund, and by doing so, you’ll help us to continue to deliver these services that are truly valued by all children, teenagers and families affected by abuse in Nottinghamshire.

How our work has impacted children and families so far…

"Imara has been the lifeline through my whole journey. I entered Imara for the first time as a lost and sad young girl, and I am leaving a confident and content young woman. I’ll never be able to thank everyone at Imara enough, I owe so much to them and I’ll always be grateful for their dedication"

"The support was very encompassing and I am now in a place I thought I never would be. It has been life changing. I feel calmer, and am able to focus on my family more, as I am not stuck in my own feelings. I have been able to process my difficult feelings and memories, and I never thought that would be possible. Thank you."

"The engagement of [Imara CHISVA] proved insurmountable support to a victim who literally had no body to turn to and took considerable pressure off the OIC in so many areas allowing a focus on the investigation itself. [Imara CHISVA] was a steady constant in a world that was very turbulent for this particular victim, not only because of the abuse suffered but because of her other circumstances. She metaphorically had her arm around her, kept track of her, looked out for her and kept her on track for the three years it took the case to get to trial. The support of IMARA was key for this victim, and played a key part in getting justice while protecting a vulnerable young person. For me as the OIC investigating a complex case IMARA was a godsend. I am aware that IMARA continue to support this victim well after the conviction"

  • Ensure young people are not misbranded with behavioural issues by extending therapy sessions until full trauma healing is achieved.

Our holistic and trauma-informed approach has been identified by many of our ex-service users as the key difference between Imara and other professionals. They felt supported and understood, allowing them to process their experiences at their own pace, without being judged.
